Over half term I became aware of The Calendar of Tales project by Neil Gaiman in association with Blackberry 10
This was created by Neil Gaiman, an author who is admired by readers all over the world. He is behind books such as Coraline, Stardust and Good Omens.
He has used tweets from his fans to create a set of stories to go with each month of the year.
The task was to choose a month and Illustrate the story. I was really inspired by the July tale.
This is the excerpt from the story I chose to Illustrate:
'I sat in my igloo imagining the arctic night outside, wondering whether the Northern Lights would be filling the sky above me. I looked out, but saw only a night filled with pinprick stars.
I slept in my igloo made of books. I was getting hungry. I made a hole in the floor, lowered a fishing line and waited until something bit. I pulled it up: a fish made of books – green-covered vintage Penguin detective stories. I ate it raw, fearing a fire in my igloo.'
After completing the image and submitting it. I also uploaded it to my tumblr art blog. And after coming home from college the next day, I saw that Neil Gaiman himself had reblogged my entry onto his own tumblr blog!
I'm so happy that he thought my drawing was good enough. This in turn broadcasted it to his massive following and the notifications on the picture are rocketing up. I'm also getting really nice comments on it. Wow!
